for the Boston Civic Symphony 2011-12 Season
Audition dates Boston Civic Symphony welcomes community members and students who are interested in playing with the orchestra. We typically hold auditions twice a year, once during the summer and again in late August/early September. During the performance season, individual auditions can be scheduled on a case by case basis, depending on our need.
Next audition date Auditions for the 2011-2012 season will be taking place at the beginning of September at the Boston University College of Fine Arts and New England Conservatory. Please check back soon for official dates and times.
Open Seats We are currently holding auditions for the specific seats below and all instruments on our sub-list:
- Concertmaster
- Assistant Concertmaster
- Principal 2nd Violin
- Principal Viola
- Principal Bass
- Second Clarinet
- Percussion

Rehearsals Boston Civic Symphony rehearsals are normally on Monday evenings from 7–10 pm, September through April. When Monday is a holiday rehearsals are on Tuesday evening instead. There is also a rehearsal on the Saturday afternoon from 2–5 pm on the day before each concert and from 10:00–12 pm on concert days. Rehearsals are held at the Devotion School in Brookline, MA.
Audition material consists of:
- a short solo, preferably from a concerto
- two or three orchestral excerpts, preferably from our season’s program
- sightreading

Applicants will be selected by our audition committee, which often consists of the music director/conductor, and other section leaders.
